Mobilisation of Community Health Extension Workers

Since 2013, Riders for Health Nigeria in partnership with the TY Dajuma Foundation has mobilised community health extension workers (CHEWS) to increase their capacity in delivering outreach community health care services to the mountainous and hard-to-reach local government areas of Lau, Takum, Wukari and Zing in Taraba State.
With adequate training, scheduled refreshers and safety gear, the CHEWs are able to ride their motorcycles and carry out basic preventive maintenance checks all of which complements their functional capacities to provide consistent health services such as, treatment of minor diseases, prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT) services, disease surveillance, routine immunization, health education, ante-natal services for pregnant mothers and referral to the primary health centres for complicated issues.

...moving global health forward

Riders for health (Riders) is an international social enterprise working to improve the capacity and efficiency of care delivery systems in Africa. Our vision is of a world in which healthcare reaches everyone, everywhere.
